About
Global Material Price Index is a reference site for traders, analysts and researchers who want to see what raw materials and intermediate products are being priced at, by HS code and origin country.
Methodology
Each price is a recorded price per metric ton in the currency of the transaction. For each HS code the site shows the median price per month, with the number of prices, lowest and highest. The site shows prices in US dollars only; records in other currencies are not shown and are not converted. Prices differ by grade, packaging, delivery terms and timing, so treat them as indicative.
- HS codes are kept as text so leading zeros are preserved.
- Exact duplicate records are removed.
- An HS code is listed only if it has USD prices in at least 3 months.
- For each HS code and currency with at least 5 prices, a price more than 3 times or less than a third of the median is excluded from the medians as likely to be a different unit or an entry error.
- Months with fewer than 5 prices are indicative only; hollow chart dots mark fewer than 3.
- The index is updated monthly.
